Abstract/Description
Dr. John McCarthy, presents a talk on the history of microburst research and the development of low-level wind shear avoidance technology at an undergraduate research seminar at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, on Nov. 15, 2013. Dr. McCarthy was one of the pioneers of microburst research during his career, and his talk presents a success story about how scientists from multiple institutions and governmental agencies were able to work together to identify a threat to aviation safety and develop technologies for its avoidance.
