Concurrent 3: Choose Your Own Adventure! in Information Literacy Instruction: For-credit Courses, Certificate-granting Programs, or Embedded Librarianship
Session Format
Virtual Panel
Proposal Synopsis
Prior to COVID 19, the presenters created and implemented a number of information literacy courses and certificate-granting resources, as well as embedded librarian programs. As we all know, the past two years have been challenging for both instructors and students as they have navigated learning in an online environment. It has been especially difficult for instructors and librarians to keep students engaged and provide fair opportunities and access to all. In this presentation, librarians will discuss the online information literacy programs they have implemented pre- and post- pandemic.
Our goal with this panel is to explore various instruction types. Each panelist has played a part in the creation and implementation of two or three of the three instruction types and will present recommendations and challenges of each. They will also discuss their respective embedded librarian programs, specifically how and what information is presented as well as the benefits to students and faculty.
Takeaways:
- Participants will define opportunities and challenges associated with the various instruction types.
- Participants will identify effective teaching strategies for instruction sessions, online learning modules, and microlectures.
