Concurrent 1: If You Build It, Will They Come? Identifying Information Needs of Adult Learners During Times of Crisis, Service Gaps, and How Virtual Services Might Bridge Divides
Session Format
In-person Presentation
Proposal Synopsis
Research has shown that adult learners have unique information needs, often with a gap in formal education, a lower level of comfort with technology (Baron and Strout-Dapaz, 2000), and frequently in need of specialized resources particular to their "situation, profession, or learning" (Olaniran, 2020). During the Covid-19 pandemic, Adult Learners fell through the cracks. Chat and email statistics demonstrate a dramatic increase of inquiries regarding library services from this demographic. This presentation will consider the types of virtual infrastructure libraries may want to build and/or invest in to ensure this group has their information needs met during times of crisis.
